Scientipôle Initiative, France
The aim of Scientipôle Initiative is to closely associate corporate and technological resources in order to contribute to the emergence of innovative enterprises and support the development of such projects.
Scientipôle Initiative was created in June 2001 with initial support from Ile-de-Science, the Essonne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Communities of the Plateau de Saclay, the Ile-de-France Regional authorities and France Initiative Réseau.
This platform for local initiatives (PFIL) was set up thanks to active support from research centers, universities, Schools of commerce, engineering, private enterprise, financial institutions and various bodies which provide technological support. These different institutions and bodies were equally involved in the development of the European zone for the Saclay-Courtaboeuf-Massy-Orly Center (CEE).
After a first year of experimental activity, it was evident that Scientipôle Initiative needed to extend its action to all innovative projects in the Ile-de-France Region. This development decision was able to be taken given the renewed support from the Ile-de-France Region, the Caisse des dépôts et consignations (financial institution) and European funding (FSE and FEDER).
Scientipôle Initiative is a member of France Initiative Réseau.
France Initiative Réseau (FIR) is the largest French associative network specialized in supporting business start-ups. FIR organizes, on local levels, collaborations between the authorities of local communities, institutions, development organizations and private enterprise in order to create a favourable environment for the development of local economic initiative and employment.
FIR's network is comprised of 240 Platforms for Local Initiative (PFIL) and 40 more PFIL are currently in development. Their main role is to collect funds in order to provide non-guaranteed loans without interest to new entrepreneurs for business start-ups and to mobilize local economic competencies to sponsor these entrepreneurs and assist them in their development.
